Glashutte Original watches are renowned for their high standards of finish, as well as their Germanic elegance and style. For 2007, the Saxony-based company has a range of new watches to tempt every collector, and we bring you the lowdown from Basel direct.

155 years after he founded J. Assmann Glashutte/i. Sa., Glashutte Original has created a tribute piece to the master watchmaker who helped pioneer the Saxon town of Glashutte's watch industry. The Julius Assmann 4 (above) is a skeletonized rose gold timepiece with a 45 mm wide pocket watch case. Framed in the dial is a tourbillon as well, in a fitting tribute to a great man. Just 25 pieces will be made.

Larger watches are still in vogue in 2007, and the PanoTourbillon XL combines this trend with sheer, haute horlogerie. The 42 mm diameter case in white gold with frames a filigreed, one-minute flying tourbillon in the upper half of the dial. The 41-02 movement also has a power reserve display and a retrograde date display. Combined, these high horology functions and lavish finish in a contemporary case design make the PanoTourbillon XL a superb new piece for Glashütte Original.

A manually-wound Caliber 99 movement and the typically high standard of finish from Glashütte Original are the main traits of the Senator Rattrapante, limited to just 100 pieces. That, and the split-seconds chronograph "rattrapante" complication, of course. The 42 mm case is fashioned from platinum, while the strap is Louisiana crocodile skin. As with all of Glashütte Original's other platinum models, the Senator Rattrapante has an onyx cabochon in the winding crown as a symbol of its exclusivity.

Premiering at Baselworld 2007, the Sport Evolution GMT watch is the latest model in the brand's sports watch line. Two sweep time zones from the center are displayed on the dial, which is housed by a stainless steel case with crown protection. The stainless steel bracelet adds to the sporting feel, with its design that prevents pinching of the skin. Finally, the watch is water resistant to 20 atmospheres.

The Pano XL range, with its dynamic design and provocative size, are new additions in the esteemed line of "Pano"-dubbed watches from the German watchmaker. Renewed for 2007, the new Pano XL is available in solid rose gold or white gold, as a Panomatic Chrono XL or a Panomatic Lunar model XL, both with a 42 mm diameter case. Caliber 95, Caliber 90, and Caliber 100 automatic movements are the mechanical internal options available.

Clean shapes and sober elegance typify the Senator Karree line from Glashutte Original. From 2007, a new manually-wound movement, Caliber 22, powers this tonneau-shaped timepiece. The panorama-type date indicator is now found at the 6 o'clock position. Roman numerals on the dial differentiate the new manual version from the automatic one, which had baton markers instead. A solid rose gold case or a stainless steel version are available.

A classic sense of style abounds in the Senator Meissen from Glashutte Original. Understated elegance and simplicity are balanced by the intricacy of the Meissen porcelain dial, which is fired at 1400 degrees C. The case is made of solid rose gold, while the ultra-thin movement has a power reserve of 55 hours.

Harking back to the joie de vivre of the swinging sixties, the new Senator Sixties model has a domed dial, arced skeletonized hands, and a choice of silver or black dial, both of which sport whimsical looking numerals. The case is made of either rose gold or steel, and houses an automatic Caliber 39-52 movement inside it. Even the precious crocodile skin strap of the Senator Sixties is a reminder of that most hedonistic and stylish decade.

A new generation of classic women's watches makes its debut this year from Glashutte Original. The Lady Serenade (above) comes in rose gold or stainless steel, and offers a choice of silver or chocolate dial, and even a diamond-paved variant. A mechanical movement powers this elegant watch, which embodies a lot of what this famed watchmaker is about whilst offering a dimension of grace for its female fans.

New for 2007, the PrettyButterfly ladies' watch is aimed at watch enthusiasts who value beauty and luxury on the wrist. Inspired by spring and the lightness of a butterfly, the bezel is framed by 64 clear white brilliant-cut diamonds, while a light yellow mother-of-pearl dial adorned with butterflies completes the theme. The Caliber 65 movement sits inside a solid white gold case, while the traditional Glashutte elements of fine watchmaking keep the watch true to the ethos of the brand.

Designed with the sportive woman in mind, the Glashutte Original Evolution M watch has a 37 mm diameter case made in stainless steel, and echoes the design themes of the rugged Sport Evolution for men. A luxury model with 48 clear white brilliant-cut diamonds is available, as is a variant with a salmon-colored dial with a matching bezel made in structured aluminum. Solid, shockproof, and elegant, the Sport Evolution M model is a watch for the active businesswoman on the go. End of Article
