Released in January 2006 the Patek Philippe 5960 is a totally new in-house reference from Patek featuring an annual calendar, automatic winding, chronograph, and power reserve indicator.

The base movement of the 5960 contains the automatic winding chronograph and is very compact. It is this base that will allow Patek to move in different directions as time progresses.

Certainly, more complex calendar mechanisms could be added in the future, or even the simplification of retracting any type of additional complication and having a simple automatic chronograph with a power reserve indicator.

It is every watch manufacturer’s dream to have base movements that are reliable and flexible, and I think Patek has hit that mark.
