Ferrari celebrated its victory at the 16th
Formula One Constructor’s World Championship at its Mugello circuit by
unveiling a limited edition open-top version of the F430 Scuderia, called the
Scuderia Spider 16M.
The Scuderia Spider 16M shares the same 510hp 4.3L V8 engine
and six-speed F1 gearbox as its coupe counterpart. With a dry weight of 1,340
kg (or 2,954 lbs), this convertible is 80 kg (or 176 lbs) lighter than the F430
Spider.
This means the same amount of power now propels a lighter body, and
with a 0-100 km/h dash in 3.7s, Ferrari says the Scuderia Spider 16M is “faster
round the Fiorano circuit than any other Prancing Horse open-top road car yet
built”. Top speed is limited to 315 km/h (or 195.7 mph).
The Scuderia Spider comes in a choice of two color schemes:
the standard black-and-grey trim, and a tri-color livery option under the
Carrozzeria Scaglietti Personalization Programme.
A silver plaque on the
dashboard and rear grille, a carbon-fiber clad roll-bar, and a central docking
station for a 16GB Ferraro iPod Touch on the dash differentiates this limited
edition series from its other F430 cousins.
Only 499 of these convertibles will
roll out from Maranello. No details has been announced on its pricing, but
being a limited edition series, expect this Spider to eclipse the F430 coupe’s
US$277,000 tag.
