Montblanc turns to the eccentric styles of Austrian artist
Friedensreich Hundertwasser for inspiration in its latest fountain pen
collection – a limited edition in solid yellow gold of 100 pieces.
Hundertwasser (1928 – 2000) was never one to shy away from
controversy. He had an affinity for spirals, curves, and bright colors, and an
equal disdain for straight lines, even going so far as to call them “the
devil’s tools”.
He started with paintings and performance art but graduated
to architectural designs in his later years. One of his most outrageous designs
was a low-income apartment block in Vienna named after him – the
Hundertwasserhaus – which had uneven floors, grass roof and huge trees growing
out from its interiors.
The Montblanc Limited Edition “Friedensreich Hundertwasser”
celebrates the artist’s attributes in the form of spirals, matt patterns, and
blue lacquer inlays that decorate the irregular hexagonal pen cap and body.
Colorful stones adorn the top of the cap. The pen clip has a scarlet tipped
spiral at the end. Hundertwasser’s quirky architectural designs appear as
engravings on the 18-carat gold nib.
