Italian architect, Giancarlo Zema, marries art with function with his
latest Ring Collection at the Salone del Mobile in Milan— one of the largest
international furniture trade fairs in the world.
Inspired by renowned English
sculptor, Henry Moore’s works, Zema designed a vibrant-coloured table, chair,
and stool range for Italian firm Giovannetti Collezioni d’Arredamento.
He
experiments with big holes carved out of each furniture piece’s base and sides
to increase lightness and portability.
In doing so, Zema creates a dual purpose
for these holes by turning them into storage space for bags and small objects,
giving users easy access to their belongings. Adjusting heights is also made
simple with the aid of a special gas piston.
Despite the highlights of the Ring
Collection’s functionality, Zema also focuses on aesthetics with his creative
use of double colour polyurethane, offering various colour combinations to
accommodate different spaces. Perfect for homes, F&B establishments, or
even office spaces, the Ring Collection’s versatile design makes it all
possible.
