In a fusion of both functionality and style, the suspended
fireplace is a modern design focal point of any room. Serving as an exquisite
centerpiece, gathering point and topic of conversation, it adds a contemporary twist
to the central fireplace installation.
While the designs are modern, they were conceptualized early
on, way back in 1968, where Dominique Imbert, founder of French company Focus
Creations, created the Gyrofocus, the first rotating drop fireplace of its
kind. This pioneering model with a rotational field of 360 degrees has become
an international design classic, having been displayed in the Bordeaux and
Grenoble Museums of Contemporary Art, as well as the Guggenheim Museum in New
York.
Imbert’s
subsequent designs, which continue to be manufactured exclusively in France,
have also enjoyed much success, most notably, the Ergofocus and Filiofocus
Télescopique which have made the rounds in museums and gathered awards in
several international competition.
Other companies that have fashioned their own designs of
suspended fireplaces include Antrax in Italy and FireOrb in the United States.
