The Aarhus Docklands in Denmark will soon see a new, edgy
residential development that promises to change the face of the harbor.
Scheduled for completion in 2010, the Iceberg Project by JDS Architects and
CEBRA was selected in a competition as the winning design for the 25,000 sqm
waterfront housing complex.
By renovating the city’s old, unused container terminal, the
team wishes to replace the harbor’s landscape with the iconic “peaks” and
“canyons” in the project’s design that resembles those of an iceberg.
This
unique design was an innovative way to fulfill preset density requirements
while remaining within a strict maximum height limit.
Thanks to the novel
design, residents at the new complex will also get to enjoy generous amounts of
natural light and extraordinary views of the harbor from their waterfront
homes.
