The villa near Salzburg made famous by Hollywood as the setting for the story of the von Trapp family in the 1965 classic “The Sound of Music” will get a new lease of life in July – this time as a hotel.

The movie, based on the true story of the von Trapp family, starred Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, and has spawned generations of fans worldwide.

For 100 euros (or US$155) a night, visitors will have a chance to relive scenes from the movie. Sip coffee at the gazebo where Liesl, eldest daughter of the von Trapp family and her boyfriend Rolf had a secret rendezvous or dine at the von Trapp family table.

The hotel’s new owners plan to preserve the villa in its original state, with only a fresh coat of paint and some rewiring the only notable touch-ups.

The villa was previously under the safekeeping of a missionary order, who had bought the residence after World War Two, and once served as the home of Nazi security chief Heinrich Himmler until 1945. The von Trapp family lived in the villa from 1923 to 1938.
