The Masters of Time, also known as Maȋtres du Temps, is an
initiative by Steven Holtzman to bring master watchmakers together to create
masterful timepieces. Holtzman is an industry veteran, with 25 years in the
sales and distribution of watches in the USA.
Chapter One of the
Maȋtres du
Temps story is written by three master watchmakers: Christophe Claret, Roger
Dubuis and Peter-Speake Marin.
What they have created is a 558-component
horological first, combining a tourbillon (at 6 o’clock), monopusher
chronograph, retrograde date (at 3 o’clock) and retrograde GMT (at 9 o’clock)
with unique moonphase (at 12 o’clock) and day-of-the-week (at 6 o’clock) on
rollers.
The rollers, perhaps reminiscent of Claret’s work on the Jean Dunand Shabaka,
were a challenge to execute, being that they must be powered at an unusual
angle.
