Formica Corporation, a U.S.-based company renowned for
making decorative surfacing materials for commercial and residential purposes,
in collaboration with the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, has
commissioned 10 celebrated designers and architects to design a collection made
of Formica brand materials.
Dubbed the “FromWhereWeSit” collection, the designers were
given a brief to simply “design an object that people could sit upon, lie upon,
lean upon, play upon”.
Reading like Hollywood’s equivalent of the design world’s
Oscar nominees, the designers include Peter Eisenman, Michael Graves, Zaha
Hadid, Thom Mayne, Buzz Yudell, Bill Pedersen, Bernard Tschumi, Laurinda Spear,
Massimo Vignelli, and Jamie Velez. Check out their innovative and quirky
