London’s Southbank will soon dazzle with a new landmark that is shaped like a jewel to reflect sunlight in all directions.

Developed by UK-based architectural firm Sheppard Robson, the 18-storey glass house at One Westminster Place on the shores of the River Thames features an interlocking diamond-shaped grid pattern that splits the sun’s rays into its plethora of colors, creating a kaleidoscopic effect, while offering its occupants magnificent views of the Thames, including Parliament and Westminster Place.

The 10,000 sq ft roof terrace is an additional consideration taken to take full advantage of the riverside views. A central atrium that spans 17 floors allows light to flood the office interiors.

The glazed glass façade also has an eco-friendly function – to maintain the temperature inside the building and collect heat for energy, according to World Architecture News. The building has already received a seal of approval for its green credentials by achieving Britain’s environmental standard BREEAM ratings for buildings.
