The new Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport has already started
making waves following its public unveiling at last weekend's Pebble Beach
Concours d'Elegance, with the first production model being auctioned off at the
Gooding & Company auction for a hammer price of US$2.9 million, with a 10-percent auction premium bringing the total to US$3.19 million. The
profits will go to charity.
The Grand Sport's removable see-through polycarbonate roof
panel is stowed manually and while there is no room to stow the panel on the
vehicle itself, the Grand Sport also comes with a foldable fabric top which
fits comfortably into the luggage compartment.
Though the soft-top will limit the supercar's speed to a
mild 81 mph, it will be able to hit 224 mph with the roof removed, with a
maximum speed of 252 mph with the polycarbonate roof on.
The world's fastest supercar will be available from March
next year with a price tag of US$2.05 million. Just 150 Grand Sports are set to
be produced, with the first 50 of them going to registered Bugatti customers.
