The newly re-imagined Dolder Grand hotel which fronts onto
faultless views of Lake Zurich and the majestic Alps has added four new
luxuriously appointed suites and a spa to its grounds.
Dating back to 1899, the main building underwent an inspired
makeover helmed by London’s Foster and Partners, and United Designers has
resulted in a lavish, modern take on one of Zurich’s most prominent landmarks.
The concept design of the new 4,000 square-meter large spa complex is the work of
Arizona-based Sylvia Sepielli.
The design of each of the four Top Suites is influenced by
famous personalities who have graced the Dolder Grand.
Illustrious Swiss
artist Alberto Giacometti, famous for his skinny, surrealistic take
on his subjects, influenced the design of the Carezza Suite's organic and sculpturally
inspired fittings and furnishings. All the neutral-toned furniture and lighting
are further evocative of works of art.
The two-tier Maestro Suite channels the lush, operatic style
of conductor Herbert von Karajan, and boasts the highest viewpoint of the
Dolder Grand.
The Masina Suite with its large Fendi sofa and distinctive
Italian style was inspired by the late actress Giulietta Masina, wife of film
director Federico Fellini.
No less indulgent is the retro-styled Suite 100, designed
for the Rolling Stones, and reminiscent of the Swinging Sixties with its
predominantly pink and black décor.
