Long-respected for their skills with whiskey, Scottish
distillers are putting their reputations to the test by creating single malt
vodka.
Announced in 2006, the first bottles are finally making it over to
Singapore exclusively through
Rubicon
Reserve Wines and are reportedly already available in the USA, Japan and
Taiwan.
Available in the UK since the launch, Valt Vodka was the clever idea of
a couple of Scotsmen in Manhattan, or so the story goes.
Other kinds of
grain-based vodkas exist of course – including traditional Polish and Russian
vodkas – and even other malt vodkas but this is the first one to be created in
Scotland with the same basic materials used to create world-famous scotch
whiskey.
The producers describe the vodka as distinctive, with barley sugar and
cream for the nose; sweet vanilla ice cream for the taste; and melting butter
for the finish.
