Alila Hotels and Resorts looks set to up the standards of
eco-luxury hospitality when its new resort Alila Villas Hadahaa, set in the
Gaafu Alifu Atoll, in the Maldives opens in 2009.
While most hotels and resorts are content with eco-friendly
operations and sustainable development practices, Alila Villas Hadahaa boasts
of a true green commitment – a claim that has been backed up by its membership
and recognition from the Green Globe, an international benchmarking and
certification programme for the travel and tourism industry.
From the ground up, everything from design to construction
of the new $40 million resort is carefully mapped out. From sourcing local
natural materials for construction, positioning of the resort villas to
minimize environmental footprints and setting aside large tracts of land for
bio-diversity protection, no effort is spared to stay true to the resort’s
green credentials.
Not compromising on the luxury element, all 14 Aqua Villas
and 36 Island Villas are luxuriously appointed – 20 of the Island Villas have
their own private pool. A fine dining restaurant serves authentic Maldivian
cuisine while a rooftop lounge lets you unwind under the stars.
The waters
surrounding the resort are great for diving, or if you prefer a less strenuous
activity, visit the resort’s tropical island garden spa for a good rubdown.
