For a long while,
user-centric laptop designs have been a hit and miss in the aesthetics
department. The recent Hewlett Packard collaboration with fashion designer
Vivienne Tam to create a peony-inspired mini notebook might just cross the
chasm between technology and fashion.
Unveiled
at the end of Tam’s Spring 2009 show, it was reportedly mistaken for clutches
carried by the models. Not surprising, since the lightweight notebooks were
clothed in printed lacquer that juxtaposed well with the repetitive peony
motifs on the models’ dresses.
Tam is known for her “China-chic style”, and
the mini notebook reflects her unique style with its flushed red fill and
discreet pink and white peony prints. In Chinese culture, peonies are symbolic
of prosperity, good fortune and
happiness.
HP has not released full
specs and prices of Tam’s digital clutch, but from the looks of it, the laptop
features a 10-inch LCD screen and the same 92 percent QWERTY keyboard from HP’s
2133 Mini-Note PC. It is expected to be out in the stores early 2009.
