The acclaimed Lexus LS600hL must now deal with a formidable
competitor following the unveiling of Mercedes-Benz’s leap into the world of
hybrid passenger cars – the S400 BlueHYBRID.
Boasting an expectedly frugal fuel
consumption of 7.9 liters per 100 kilometers along with all the visual spendor
and creature comforts of an S-Class, it is powered by a 279 horsepower,
modified 7-speed automatic 3.5-liter V6 and a 20 hp electric motor/generator
with a lithium-ion battery small enough to fit under the hood with the engine.
This combination of power sources results in what is commonly known as the
‘boost’ effect, a power-enhancing feature that occurs as a result of the cooperation
between the two power sources.
At a mere 190 g/km, it features the most
environmentally friendly CO2 emission rating in the world for a car
of this size, and is expected to be a popular choice among environmentally
conscious drivers looking for the best in image, comfort and luxury.
