Kurve, the pan-Asian
restaurant in New York, could easily have been mistaken for designer Karim
Rashid’s own design laboratory. Rashid, who conceptualized the restaurant’s
interiors, has gone with his favorite color – pink. The spherical and curvy shapes
are exactly how Rashid wants it to be: an organic, flowing space.
Pink has been used as a way
of symbolizing positivity, and to that effect gradients of pink are splashed on
the walls as well as the ceiling. Swirly lines of hot pink line the side walls,
along with oval mirrors that magnify the space.
Baby pink chairs and tables
contrast with its soft touch. Cameras have been installed at the bar area to
take imagery of customers and then project it on screens behind the oval
mirrors.
The technological aspect is a
personal touch from Rashid, who tries to incorporate new technology to
integrate the artificial with the living. Apart from its unique design, the
restaurant-cum-pub serves cuisine that can best be described as a fusion of
Eastern food and Western cooking techniques.
