A collaborative effort between Michelin and French automaker
Venturi has seen the creation of a new electric sports car, the Venturi
Voltage, which made its debut at the 2008 Paris Motor Show earlier this week.
With a body made entirely of carbon fiber, the Voltage is
the first vehicle to be equipped with the innovative Michelin Active Wheel, an
advanced system of in-wheel electric motors at each corner of the car. Each
wheel comes with not one, but two motors – one to drive a reduction gear, and
the other to manage the active suspension.
The car’s 45 kWh lithium batteries are capable of taking it
as far as 199 miles (320 km) at a speed of 56 mph (90 km/h) on a single charge,
with a top speed of 93 mph. Production on the limited run of Voltages is set to
begin in 2012, with each vehicle being individually hand-assembled in Venturi’s
Monaco atelier.
