Dutch architects MVRDV have cemented a win for its second
project in Copenhagen, the Rødovre Skyscraper. Together with Danish
co-architects ADEPT, MVRDV won the design competition with their idea of a
flexible “Sky Village”, to be located at Roskildevej, just east of Copenhagen.
The building, visually reminiscent of pixels off a computer
screen, is based on a flexible grid. Each 60-meters square-large “pixel” will
be arranged around the centre of the building, and can be modified as market
forces should dictate.
The 116m tall tower is expected to house apartments, a
hotel, offices and retail space. A public park and a plaza will also be part of
the building’s grounds.
Progressive
Danish environmental standards are reflected in the building’s use of 40
percent recycled concrete, and a variety of energy-producing devices on the
building’s exterior. MVRDV is a highly acclaimed architecture firm, having
received international recognition for previous work in Copenhagen, such as
residential project, the Frøsilos Residence.
