In April this year, we reported on BMW’s retro-styled M1 Homage
Concept. According to Autocar, BMW is working on a successor to the M1, that is based on the Homage Concept, and is
being hailed as a “breakthrough green supercar” to be launched by the end of
2012.
The as-yet-unnamed mid-engine supercar is a two-seater that
will feature BMW’s twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter straight six, and targeted at
the Audi R8 and Mercedes-Benz SLC. It will boast the German automaker’s
by-now-familiar Efficient Dynamics system, with fuel efficiency and CO2
emissions expected to be on par with a mid-range 5-series.
This is achieved through a combination of direct injection,
brake energy regeneration, stop-start technology, and a proposed move to
incorporate BMW’s F1 team’s kinetic recovery system.
