A Roman theater has been carefully reconstructed
in a residential estate, with its layout and hi-tech screening environment
making the walk-through a cinematic pleasure by itself.
House owner Kim Banducci, without formal
training in interior design, conceptualized the interior, from the meticulous
minute details to the outstanding flourishes.
The golden acoustic wall fabric takes its cue from elegant ball gowns,
but it’s the molding that reflects the painstaking work.
The panels of the
fabric are framed by multiple layers of gold-gilded crown molding, custom cut
by Banducci herself and with their colors matched by colorist Phillpa Radon.
Backlit onyx marble panels line the bottom half of the side walls, another
Italian influence which also echoes the celestial ceiling of the theater. The
sundown ceiling has a cloud scene rendered timeless by bronze and brown colors,
dimly lit by the soft rays cast by wall scones alongside the walls.
The Los Angeles-based team of Future Home then
facilitated the couple’s vision of recreating a Roman theater experience by
seamlessly integrating their sophisticated video and audio technology with the
customized interior.
Future Home had to work within this challenging framework
with limited space without ruining the concept, and managed to incorporate
11-foot Stewart Filmscreen Luxus Screenwall together with a complete home
theater system. With slight tweaking and modern technology introduced, the
Roman theater was thus realized.
