Dororthy's ruby slippers have shown up during this year's Fashion Week with a dedicated exhibition at New York's Bryant Park, as top designers like Roger Vivier, Christian Louboutin, Oscar de la Renta and Manolo Blahnik paid homage to the little Kansas girl from the 1900 children's classic "The Wizard of Oz". 2009 marks the 70th anniversary of this Hollywood movie, which starred Judy Garland.
Now it's Asia's turn to take a stab at recreating these famous red shoes, as Hong Kong shoe boutique On Pedder has roped in 17 international designers in an initiative titled 'The Kansas Project' in collaboration with Warner Brothers.
Stella McCartney
Featuring designs by Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, Sergio Rossi and Giuseppe Zanotti, the shoes are on display in an ongoing exhibition at the On Pedder flagship boutique in Central from 21 November – 7 December.
There's even a replica of the original pair made famous by Judy Garland from the 1939 film. There’s also an ongoing silent auction which ends on 4 December, with proceeds going to the Hong Kong Cancer Fund.
