Marc Jacobs has created a sexy, flirty line for the Louis Vuitton
Spring/Summer 2009 Women’s Collection. Mood-lifting pieces with short hemlines,
striking colors, lush materials and intricate tailoring with glamorous
accessories were seen on the catwalk.
This collection puts rich with rich, as seen in sharp shouldered jackets
cut from duchesse satin, with python leather trimmings.
Intercultural
references were subtly woven in, with Japanese-inspired obi belts and a French-style
peep through panel of point d’esprit lace at the back. Vibrant, lavish colours
dominated with bright yellows and greens, deep purples and dark blacks, as well
as splashes of gold and metallic silver.
Full-blown ethnic
references peeped out from minidresses and skirts: ostrich feathers, decorative
tribal patterns, animal printed accessories, tassels and wooden beads were
seamlessly put together.
Pants were wide-legged, slouchy and high-waisted, a
juxtaposition with tailored shirts and jackets. The fashion house has said that
the designer has intended this bold, sexy collection to be a rousing answer to
the troubled economic climate.
