Mercedes-Benz's green cars of the future will make their
debut at the coming 2009 Detroit Auto Show with the unveiling of three concepts
from the German automaker's BlueZero project to design low-to-no-emission
vehicles for more eco-friendly motoring.
Three concepts will be introduced at the event, the BlueZero
E-Cell, an electric, lithium ion powered five-door capable of traveling 100 km
on a two-hour charge, the hydrogen fuel-cell BlueZero F-Cell, and the BlueZero
E-Plus, a lithium ion powered hybrid running up to 600 km on a full tank with the
same turbocharged engine that powers the Smart ForTwo.
These low-emission concepts could give us a hint of the designs we will
see in the new generation of Mercedes A and B Classes due to hit the streets in
2011, and will hopefully be realized in a move towards cleaner motoring in the
near future.
