The Modern Pantry in London is tucked
away in a former Georgian steel foundry and townhouse, and offers a pantry cum
restaurant dining option.
Its glass fronted Ground Floor Café is a
modern casual dining space, with an informal dining room as well as a small
bar. The industrial theme prevails charmingly, with curved, edgy designer
chairs by Horm, bright copper lamps from the ceiling, and brick walls left
bare.
Keeping in sync with the comfortable vibe
of the place, the furniture is in white and tabletops engraved with Modern
Pantry cooking utensil motifs. Fusion food is the order of the day here, as
Chef and Owner Anna Hansen imparts her philosophy of redoing traditional food
with new flavours.
Main courses include exotic options like quail eggs
coated with crushed krupuk (Indonesian prawn crackers) alongside a
dipping sauce of lime and chilli.
Linked to the steel foundry, the townhouse
is where the pantry can be found. Decked out like an old-fashioned traiteur
with bespoke shelving as a contemporary twist, it serves an enticing range of
delicatessen baked fresh daily.
Upstairs, the place has been converted into
a private dining area, with fine dining served on the menu here. Near the
city’s traffic free town square, it is a viable option for a heavy brunch or
drinks after work.
