In a departure from her flamboyant curves and fluid forms,
famous architect Zaha Hadid’s latest proposal for The Dorobanti Tower in
Bucharest takes the shape of an elliptical meshed tower.
Standing at 200m tall, the Tower is set to become an
architectural icon in Romania’s capital city. The chamfered diamond shape,
which tapers from the center towards top and bottom, are the result of
considerations given to urban regulations and site constraints.
The building’s
tapered profile
comes like a breath of fresh air in this former communist country, which
still retains much of the angular architecture associated with its communist
history. Due to be completed in 2013, the Dorobanti Tower is expected to house a
five-star hotel, restaurants, a convention center and luxury residences, as
well as a shopping mall.
