Aston Martin has revealed the first details and photos of
their new top-of-the-line offering, the 2009 DBS Volante. Set to premiere at
next week’s Geneva Auto Salon, this is only the 16th open-air sports
car to be produced by the British automaker in its 95 years of history.
At the touch of a button, the DBS Volante’s retractable
fabric roof opens and stows neatly beneath the newly sculpted tonneau in just
14 seconds, while cruising at speeds of up to 30 mph (48km/h).
Underneath its
lightweight carbon fiber bonnet, a 6-liter V12 pushing out some 512 bhp brings
the car to its top speed of 191 mph (307 km/h) and to a speed of 62 mph (100
km/h) in just 4.3 seconds. The Volante also gets the standard DBS rear-mounted six-speed
manual gearbox as well as carbon ceramic brakes for exceptional stopping power.
Inside this four-seater two-door convertible, passengers
will get to enjoy uncompromised comfort with the top up or down, especially
with Bang and Olufsen’s 13-speaker BeoSound DBS in-car entertainment system,
designed to compensate for additional wind noise.
Each car will be individually assembled at the company’s
global headquarters before being shipped out in autumn 2009. Prices will be
available upon its official debut in Geneva.
