The Rotonde case houses Cartier’s nod to the time writer, presented here
as a clever and functional reinterpretation of the chronograph display. All the
chronograph information is presented centrally, without the use of the
traditional subdials.
This arrangement – with the hour and minute hands
partially hidden by the chronograph segment – means the chronograph is never
obscured. Of course, the chronograph display – held in place by a sapphire ring
– does not obscure the display of normal time.
The slim blued central hand
records elapsed seconds while the arc at 6 o’clock charts the minutes. Cartier
developed the manual-winding calibre 9907 MC from scratch, via its own
technical team and watchmakers. The movement features a column-wheel
chronograph assembly, with the vertical clutch system. It is cased in 18 carat
pink gold.
