“How about a game of ping pong after dinner?” This could
have been the musings of upper class Victorians in the 1880s over dinner as
they pondered their post-dinner recreation.
But Shanghai-based Singaporean designer Hunn Wai saw the
funny side of it, and decided to marry the two – recalling the sport’s English
roots while preserving the aesthetics of a classical dining table befitting of
these aristocrats.
The dining table he designed for interior lifestyle concept
brand Mein, is an official-sized table tennis table but gleams with a DuPont
Corian surface and comes decorated with gold lacquered French Rococo patterns
and ping-pong motifs.
A long rectangular vase of white blossoms doubles up as the
net, and when not in use, is simply realigned to serve its more humble purposes
as tabletop decoration.
