Held at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront
Hotel on the 25th April 2009, the World Gourmet Summit Awards of
Excellence acknowledges the individuals and establishments alike who have
contributed to persistently high standards of culinary expertise and top tier
fine dining experiences in Singapore.
Luxury-Insider.com celebrates
these talents with the crème de la crème of the Food and
Beverage industry.
Over 30 awards, all of equal prestige in their
own right, were given out to deserving recipients. Yet there were several
stand-outs which shone. Timothy Goh, maître d’ and chief sommelier of Les Amis
Group, received both Le Cordon Bleu Restaurant Manager of the Year and Top
Wines Sommelier of the Year.
Les Amis itself picked up the Georges Duboeuf Old World
Wine List of the Year and was inducted into the Hall of Fame, a new
inauguration which celebrates recipients who have received the awards at least
three times since the first awards ceremony in 2001.
Yong Bing Ngen, owner-chef
of Majestic Restaurant, was not only jointly recognized by both S.Pellegrino
and Citibank for Chef of the Year, but also got the nod from his apprentices as Most Supportive Mentor
Culinary Chef.
Celebrated restaurateur Roberto Galetti bagged two awards for
Restaurateur of the Year and Indoguna Restaurant of the Year for Garibaldi
Italian Restaurant and Bar. Finally, the distinguished Fonterra Lifetime
Achievement Award went to Christophe Megel of At-Sunrice Global Chef
Academy.
