Vietnamese designer Huy Vo has created what is being billed
as the most expensive bridal gown in Vietnam with a price tag of two billion
dong, equivalent to US$117,000.
Named “Bach ngoc xiem y”, which in Vietnamese literally
means “gown with hundreds of gemstones, the gem-spangled gown was commissioned
by Vietnam’s DOJI Gold & Gems Group, and unveiled on Sunday at the Ruby
Plaza trading center in Hanoi.
Just how many gemstones you ask? 222 diamonds and 100 red
rubies adorn the gown, made of white silk and satin. One of the main features
of the gown is a flower crafted entirely out of 22 rubies and eight diamonds,
with a drop-shaped ruby as the flower’s pistil, symbolizing love.
The wedding gown took Vo (pictured above) 40 days to create. Miss Vietnam 2009
runner-up Thuy Va will model the gown today, after which it will be displayed
on the 3rd floor of Ruby Plaza.
The DOJI Group last made headlines in March 2008 with a
two-billion-dong (worth US$125,000 then)
wedding flower bouquet, studded with one hundred gemstones.
