At a time when gold prices are an all-time high, it seems a tad indulgent (not to mention ostentatious) to think of gold as a daily household condiment – much like salt and pepper.
Spanish company Golden International Distribution begs to differ; they have just launched “Orogourmet” – a series of edible gold and silver products in the form of sheets, salt, and dust.

The use of gold leaves and dust in fine dining (as decorative accents) is nothing new of course, since gold has no taste or smell, and hence does not alter the quality or taste of the food.
The products from Orogourmet also meet exacting U.S. and EU health and safety standards.

Sprinkle a dash of gold flakes in your champagne, or adorn your chocolate cakes and desserts with sheets of gold leaves or salt, and your garden party or Halloween bash suddenly takes on a whole new luster.
If the ancient Egyptians and Chinese are to be believed, you and your guests could also be eating and drinking your way to a more beautiful complexion, and a longer healthier life. Cheers to that!
