In a world where brands go to the most exceptional lengths to create unique products, it shouldn't come as a surprise - Artya has made a watch from dinosaur dung.

The Swiss-based manufacturer has stayed away from typical fittings such as gold and diamonds, and instead made a timepiece whose face is constructed from fossilised faeces. The designer, the ex-chief executive of Romain Jerome, Yvan Arpa (below), said the excrement in question comes from a herbivore that died about 100 million years ago.

A statement from Artya read: "A relic of the Jurassic period, it has taken millions of years for this organic substance to embrace its present warm and matchless tints."

Adding: "In its mineral aspect, it forcefully underscores the pristine strength emanating from the very dawn of life."

Providing another naturalistic element is the strap, which is made from the skin of an American cane toad - an animal whose skin is poisonous when alive.

Artya's 'Coprolite' watch will feature at Baselworld and is priced at $11,290.
