E.S. Kluft & Co produces a $33,000 mattress filled with cashmere and a host of other highly-prized materials.

The hand-tufted, king-size Palais Royale is currently the most expensive mattress in America and takes 10 craftsmen three days to build.

Containing 10 layers and more than 10 pounds of cashmere, mohair, silk and New Zealand wool, since 2008 they have sold 100 pieces.

Earl Kluft (below) chief executive of E.S. Kluft, said: "We really want the consumer to get a better night's sleep. When you think about it, the mattress is the most important thing in your house. You spend more time on your bed than anywhere else."

Later this year they will launch a $44,000 mattress which contains a layer of horsehair for added resiliency.
