The engineers at Williams F1 have created three series of golf clubs, the most expensive of which costs $50,000.
Josh Trivett, a director for Williams Sports, said: “Golf has always been technology driven. The aerodynamics of high-end sports cars is the same thing we’re looking for in golf clubs. Williams Sports has 250 engineers who know how to work with materials, weighting and aerodynamics."
Using the same knowledge they bring to the F1 grid, they have incorporated Densimet in all of their woods and irons. It is the second-heaviest metal in the world and you'll find it in the FW32 racecar helping bring the car up to the minimum race weight.
In addition, Inconel, a nickel-based material used by Williams F1 for exhaust parts, has also been integrated. The key benefit is that is has a higher tensile strength than stainless steel, but thanks to its nickel base it provides a softer feel.
“It’s all so different that some people have had trouble getting their heads around it,’’ Trivett explained. “But once they understand the technology and see how it works, they’re sold.’’
The top of the range series is the Black Diamond which features a driver fitted with gold insets as well as gold-plated irons. Other perks include a customized fitting from an expert who will fly anywhere in the world to tailor each piece of equipment to the specific needs of the player.
The buyer will also receive a personalized 100% Italian leather custom Williams Sports golf bag handmade in Italy by Schedoni as well as VIP treatment at a Formula One race.
