Mercedes-AMG, the
motorsports arm of Mercedes-Benz, has unveiled a track-focused
special edition of its SLK 55 AMG sports car for an Event
Series of races in Asia.
Comprised of competitors
ranging from private individuals to clients of large corporations,
it will be staged over ten race events throughout Asia.
35 of these special, track-spec race cars (based on the
2005 Formula One safety car) have been built for the series,
which is being billed by organizers as a “lifestyle
event.” Interested driving enthusiasts can look forward
to 100 or so laps at world-class race circuits across the
Asia-Pacific region, in far-flung locations such as Thailand,
Malaysia, Indonesia, China, and Australia. With limited
places still available for those lucky enough to be able
to participate, now is as good a time as any to sign up.

Participants
need not worry about maintaining the cars, as the car, all
spare parts, and servicing is taken care of by the organizers.
This is an extremely rare opportunity for driving enthusiasts
to experience a professional racing environment, with all
necessary equipment and support courtesy of AMG. Best of all,
there will be professional drivers on hand to instruct competitors,
even though professionals will themselves not be allowed to
compete.
The
idea is to keep it a “gentleman's race”. Winning,
therefore, is not necessarily the preserve of the fastest
driver of the day. Points are awarded to competitors for various
competitions besides racing, and everybody will have
a chance to score. Ultimately, the goal is for all participants
to have a fun experience, or as the organisers call it, the
ultimate driving experience in Asia. |
