Now made of a three-piece construction – which is claimed to be as robust as the original monocoque design – the new Nautilus watches still sport the characteristic porthole mechanism used to seal the bezel, as well as lateral ridges much like the 1976 original.
The 5711/1 A is the new flagship of the range. At 43 mm, it is a single millimeter larger than its predecessor of three decades ago, due to the rounder contours of the lateral hinge ridges. The case has a 120-meter water resistance depth, and features a sapphire-crystal case-back, as well as a screw-down crown for better integrity in tough conditions.
The stainless steel case on a stainless steel bracelet hark back thirty years to the first generation in fine style. The movement, however, is a self-winding, Patek Philippe caliber 315 SC with date, and a heavy 21k gold rotor, which is acclaimed by collectors and connoisseurs alike.
