Like the standard Nautilus watches, the Ref. 5712/1 also has a predecessor with a cult following, achieved nearly overnight when it was first released. Like its illustrious predecessor, the new Ref. 5712/1 has, in addition to its usual time-telling functions, a power-reserve indicator, an analog date, as well as a moon-phase indicator.

This level of mechanical complexity is somewhat rare in a sports luxury watch. Unfortunately, however, this also does mean that the water resistance depth of this watch has been halved from its simpler siblings, to a still-worthy 60 meters.

Housed in a stainless steel case with integrated steel bracelet, the Ref. 5712/1 A is the classic complicated Nautilus model. For those who desire to combine this ruggedness with a hint of added luxury, there are two further versions of this fine watch, the Ref. 5712 R in 18k rose gold, and the Ref. 5712 G in white gold, both of which are worn on hand-stitched, large-scale alligator straps in brown or safari black, respectively.
