Following on the success of Patek Philippe's first in-house chronographs, the world's thinnest split-seconds chronograph, the Ref. 5959P; and the first self-winding chronograph with an Annual Calendar, the Ref. 5960P, the Nautilus range now carries with it the Ref. 5980/1 A chronograph styled in the familiar, rugged shape of the rest of the maritime-themed line.
The chronograph function is an appropriate addition to this sporty collection, and makes for a perfect match with the Ref. 5980/1 A's masculine 44 mm width. Loosely based on the acclaimed Ref. 5960, the 28-250 C movement also has an instantaneous date display, as well as an innovative – and somewhat unusual – clutch-type mechanism that allows the flyback chronograph hand to double as a constantly-running sweep seconds hand.
Like all the new Nautilus range, the Ref. 5980/1 A features a sapphire-crystal case-back, a stainless steel case, and an integrated steel bracelet. What sets it apart is its chronograph movement, with its superbly integrated pushers, and its innovative approach to packaging such a complication into a classic watch. With this, and the rest of the illustrious range, Patek Philippe's Nautilus collection is ever-ready to take on the next thirty years. Click on thumbnails to launch bigger pictures |
