Luna2 Private Hotel, Bali

Touch down at Luna2, a five-bedroom private hotel located on 1,600 sq m of pristine Seminyak beachfront in Bali. The first thing that strikes you is its Modernist design, a fusion of 1950s and 1960s nostalgia with 21st century vibes – a style that owner Melanie Hall describes as "funked up modernism". Not quite the Bali getaway of Buddha-filled rooms and scented candles you may have imagined.

Incidentally, Melanie, who heads her own boutique design company Mimpi Design Inc, is responsible for dressing up the interiors of Luna2 while American architect David Wahl conceived the architecture.

All five bedrooms are individually splashed in bright hues of red, green, yellow, orange and purple. Each room is clothed in fabrics from Scotland, vintage-inspired wallpaper from the UK, and furnished with modern conveniences such as Bose sound systems, pre-loaded iPods, LCD screens, and wireless Internet. Ensuite bathrooms feature Bisazza mosaic walls, Dornbracht faucets and the Philippe Starck cube toilets. A mosaic of Marilyn Monroe-over-the-vent beckons from the bottom of a 20m lap pool. There's even a playroom for children well-stocked with X-Boxes and computer games.

A team of chefs headed by Danny Drinkwater, of Park Hyatt Sydney and Harbourkitchen&bar fame, serves up haute cuisine right before your eyes at the chef's table. Danny also doubles up as the hotel’s general manager and your personal concierge service. If you desire a good rub-down or crave a wagyu steak sandwich in the middle of the night, just give Danny a call.
