The Atlantis 35 shines on the water as much as it does in harbor. You need to wind the revs up quite high to get this boat onto the plane but once
there it will cruise at around 27 knots at an economical 3000 rpm. Just when you want a lively sea to test a boat of this type, the Mediterranean was
a flat calm so our own small wash was the only waves we could find. The boat handles tautly and precisely but with the considerable weight aft on the
test boat the hull does have a tendency to 'porpoise'. This can be quickly subdued by lowering the flaps slightly. As is usual with the DuoProp stern
drives only a very small amount of power trim is required.
This is very much a driver's boat and it responded well to being thrown about at speed and then was transformed into a docile, quiet boat when in
the marina. The boat tested had 310 hp Volvo Pentas that gave a top speed of 34 knots but the US version will have the top-of-the range 350 hp units
and these should give exciting performance close to the 40-knot mark.
This is the key to the Atlantis 35. It combines mature and spirit-lifting performance with a standard of luxury that is rare on a 35 footer. On this
design it is a brilliant combination and I would rank this design as the best I have seen in its category.
