Simply Perfect: A pictorrial Review of the Dufour Simplicity
Black polish, or speculaire, is achieved when a steel surface is so perfectly polished, it appears black when viewed from above and contains no minute scratches.

The cap jewel setting, covering the pivot of the escape wheel, exemplifies speculaire. It is so highly polished that you can see a reflection of the cap jewel setting screw off the inner surface of the sapphire case-back.

Even the teeth of the ratchet wheel are beveled and polished to perfection.

Like all true luxury products, the real value is in the detailing. A wearer of a Philippe Dufour will always enjoy the fact that underneath its discreet dial lies an exquisitely finished movement, conceived of and executed by a true living grandmaster of haute horlogerie.
