This limited edition beauty is Ulysse Nardin's 2008 execution of its Sonata Cathedral Dual Time watch. As we noted last year, the biggest boon this
watch offers is the now-famous +/- pusher corrector for the dual time function, making the switching of time forwards and/or backwards child's play.
Most such functions only allow the advancement of time.
Moving backwards involves a great deal of hassle. Taking into consideration the big date and the alarm, setting the second time zone becomes a tiresome
affair. With this +/- corrector, everything switches effortlessly through its commands – with date, alarm and countdown obeying without fuss.
Unlike the watch we featured last year, this one displays the second time zone via a subdial. Functionally, there is no difference. The alarm function
here – the only one in the world where the alarm can be set 24 hours in advance – is a thing of beauty but its true utility will depend
on individual preferences.
Enthusiasts may want to note though that this watch features three silicium innovations introduced by the brand in 2007. It is the first watch in
series production to feature a hairspring and escapement wheel in silicium. Additionally, the watch also features an anchor with integrated safety pin
and roller with integrated impulse finger in silicium.
