Divine Inspiration
While most mechanical watches of the time utilized
5 bridges, the design of the Three Gold Bridges was said to be inspired by
the Holy Trinity, where the top bridge (which held the mainspring barrel),
the center bridge (holding the hour and minute hand), and the third bridge
(holding the tourbillon) represented the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit
respectively.
Other oft-quoted theories behind the three bridge design was
that the three bridges represented the past, present, and the future; and
even the sunrise, zenith, and sunset.
