Being a pilot is fun. It’s like a childhood dream come true – taking to the skies without a single care or worry in the world. I’m sure as a kid, we’ve all dreamed of being an astronaut or the Man of Steel. But while being an astronaut might seem like an out of this world achievement, and the latter an impossible feat, being a pilot is actually a lot easier than it sounds.
When I tell people I’m a pilot, I get all kinds of responses, good ones mostly. It’s funny how I get treated like a celebrity. After all, pilots are the most visible people in the chain of highly trained professionals in the aviation industry. A summer blockbuster movie can’t do without a movie star; likewise, an aircraft won’t move if a pilot isn’t there to commandeer it. But the similarities end here. Movie stars aren't responsible for the lives of others on the job, but pilots shoulder that responsibility everyday when they fly. So while being a pilot may seem like a glamorous job, it is a very serious business.
