What one item would you rescue if your flat were on fire?

My passport and photo of Diana, the late Princess of Wales.

What’s your home decor philosophy?

Industrial chic. Having a home with a garden and nature right outside, I wanted to work with the environment and incorporate that into the interior. The structure has a lot of steel, but with stylish elements that soften the hardness of the metal. People can walk in from the street with wet feet, dirty feet, I don’t care. It’s a country house.

What was the hardest thing to buy for your home?

The right proportioned sofa.

What’s missing from your home?

Nothing!

What would you like to throw away?

Anything baroque from my previous home in Shek O.

What’s on your bathroom shelf?

We are developing hair products made with Chinese botanicals that are preservative-free.

What helps you sleep at night?

Great sex!

What’s the strongest design feature in your home?

Three white lights hanging above the dining table. They are by Jeremy Cole and impossible to clean! I prefer chandeliers, but the modern design of these suits my decor. I first saw them in London but didn’t buy them until Bonnie [Brooks] got them at Lane Crawford.

What’s your most treasured possession?

Too many favourite pieces, such as the two white bowls [on the dining table] that I recently bought in Beijing. I just love them. They look timeless and I think they are gorgeous. I wanted something that softens the Jeremy Cole lights. I also like the huge bronze leaves next to them. I got them in Thailand; they are real leaves that were dipped in bronze.

Which part of your home do you use the most?

The dining room where I sit and think about things, such as strategies with the company, and I feel at peace. There is no noise, no traffic. I can be alone at night, looking out to the garden, but it is not pitch black, which I hate, because I illuminate the trees.

Which part are you least attached to?

The kitchen as I hardly cook.

When you entertain, what’s your recipe for success?

A great mix of guests.
