With the Enzo's astonishing V12 in front and a super-quick F1-style gearbox in the rear, Ferarri's new 599GTB Fiorano is the spiritual successor to the much-loved 550/575 front-engined Ferarris of the past decade. However, with its ferocious 620 hp it has the ability to blow its predecessor's slinky doors off – with all due respect of course. For the less flamboyant and well-heeled, the new Mercedes CL coupe is perhaps the perfect all-round Grand Tourer around today. Matching the fantastic S-Class's robust build and thump from a range of fine, fine engines – starting with a 380 horsepower V8 up to a twin-turbo V12 sledgehammer – the CL has always been a particularly civilized way of lording it over lesser mortals in their common-or-garden Mercedes'. Unmissable and distinctive with those fat wheel arches, the CL somehow sets itself apart from the world of mainstream automobiles, without ever raising its voice about it. Classy.
