By far the most beguiling of all the luxury sedans has to be the decidedly old-world Bentley Arnage. New for the 2007 model year, the updated behemoth refuses to be overtaken by younger upstarts, who litter the lower regions of this admittedly still-formidable list. It has even more power from its triumphantly antiquated pushrod turbo V8, growing to a Mercedes-matching 500 horsepower and 1000Nm. Its interior has also seen a thorough update, and now simply oozes quality. There is nothing that is less than utterly superb about this car.

In the same vein as the Bentley, and continuing the theme they perfected decades ago, Mercedes Benz has applied their magic AMG treatment to their S-Class super-saloon in the form of the 500+ horsepower S63 V8 sedan, and the 600+ horsepower S65 twin-turbo V12. With either motor, however, you are getting what is probably the world's most complete luxury car, with immense performance, comfort, and safety in a striking package. Love them or hate them, the new S-Class performance flagships are incredible technological achievements in their own right.

The Italophiles amongst you will doubtless already have this in your garage, or at the very least, in your dream garage. The Maserati Quattroporte line never ceases to tug at the heartstrings, no matter how flawed they have been in the past. The latest version – the Sport GT – however, needs no excuses. It is now a nearly perfectly-sorted machine that has a whole lot of everything going for it: a snarling, 400 horsepower, naturally-aspirated V8, a sumptuous interior, and striking – if not immediately beautiful – looks. The ultimate in uniquely Italian luxury.
