With a watchmaking history dating back to 1858, Minerva is a brand much loved by watch cognoscenti. Its classic designs and hardy movements, including the classic time-only movement caliber 48/49 and the mono-pusher chronograph Calibre 13/21, have many admirers. Minerva however had never really reached a high level of public awareness, due largely to its lack of marketing and distribution.

Montblanc, on the other hand, is one of the most recognizable names in luxury. With a heritage in making fine writing instruments, its white-on-black motif can now be found on products ranging from writing instruments to jewellery and leather goods, and its boutiques are in every major city of the world.

The acquisition of Minerva by Montblanc would thus seem like a match made in heaven, with one party lending its management and financial might, while the other is free to concentrate on what it does best - make beautiful watches.
